Caring for your jewellery

Over time, colour changes to the surface of the sterling silver may occur, this is called tarnishing. Tarnishing is a natural process that occurs to silver and gold, and there are many different factors which contribute to the pace and severity of tarnishing (such as humidity, oils of the skin, occasionally chemicals in products etc).

This colouration can be a desired look, but if you prefer to keep your jewellery nice and shiny I’d recommend giving them a quick clean every now and then!
(also storing them in an airtight or sealed box when not being worn is a good idea)

Here are instructions for cleaning your jewellery pieces.

Silver:
To clean, use a soft cloth in soapy water or soft bristled toothbrush with silver cleaner.
The most accessible silver cleaner is ‘Silvo’ which you can find in most supermarkets.
I would also highly recommend investing in ‘Hagerty silver and multi-metal foam,’ which is a jewellery specific foam solution that you use under water with a sponge or old toothbrush. This product will keep you going for many years, and gives a much deeper clean and polish which will leave your jewellery looking squeaky-clean!

Gold plated silver:
To clean, us a soft cloth and soapy water (do not use any abrasive cleaning products or cloths, and avoid rubbing too hard).
As these pieces are coated with a thin layer 18k gold, which will over time become less vibrant and eventually may wear away in areas. If you find you would like something re-plated, please get in contact and we can make arrangements for this.
